It's time for thanksgiving!

My love for beaurocracy got only stronger after running behind the people at the Indian embassy, Berlin for the past three months to get my new passport!
Wow... I really now believe that one of the trainings that these people undergo before taking the job is to "how to be highly inefficient and incompetent" in offering service to the public. I have to admit that they are quite good in being highly inefficient as I am still waiting for my passport!

I am also impressed how they really keep all the important information, that can make people's life easy, hidden in their brains and it was like playing games in my laptop that I had to get each one of it out from them. So they really make life more fun!

The Indian Embassy is the same everywhere else as well; Paris, Frankfurt and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from what I know!

I think they have a tough job interview: they only select ppl who are certified idiots to work there.

You Indians created the Monster
and now complaining about it?

I am an American and I got my
visa at a record speed. Everyone
at the embassy were courteous, helpful and answered every question I had.

But,now I am in Chennai, the capital of Chaos, nothing sane works. From the ToTo rickshaw to star rated hotels its the same story. Try to rob you first, then if you question play ignorance.

They should name the center of the city 'Pandemonium Plaza!

The city is dirty,no courtesy for pedestrians; there are no walkaways; Simple, this city is for fools and dumbasses.
You can piss, take a crap, spit and pass on every germ you carry by coughing on the guy who is walking towards you.
Everyone I acquaint with wants me to give a certificate stating Chennai is better than Calcutta, Bombay and so ..Whats with that ?
So,lady there are other things to complain than go after the over worked federal workers. Give'em a break please..

(This is probably none of my business, but I can't just sit back and let some cowardly jerk hiding under anonymity attack my country for what its worth.

Follows my response to Mr/Ms Anonymous in the comment above)

I have a feeling your "I am an American" pride stems from the fact that you were originally born into a 3rd World country from where you ran away to live your American Dream; and now that you're finally American, you probably think of yourself as somehow superior to the lesser mortals of the Eastern World.
Nevertheless even if you're not, your response on a public forum kinda reflects on the culture you dwell in; and from what you've written, I should rather say, the lack of it.

I will not return the insult and say "you Americans" are a bunch of idiots, because I happen to know there are good and rotten people in each country. Of course, your ex-president was an exceptional idiot, but then mistakes do happen.
In your country, twice. :D

If you really believe Chennai is the "capital of Chaos", maybe you shouldn't have gone there...or anywhere else in India for that matter.
Quite frankly, we're getting sick and tired of you pathetic high society spoilt brats who've never seen a hungry person and stare in horror at the lack of pedestrian crossings and dirt.

We are aware of that, and we are working to better that, but a country that is home to a sixth of humanity WILL have shortcomings, and it is not easy to maintain the high standards of living you expect.
But in the meanwhile, like I said before, if your rotten highness is too clean and proper for our cities, then please go somewhere else....like that little bubble you originally come from where all things are great and rosy.

Because even the United States has its fair share of shortcomings; but I would not list them and succumb to the same depths of stupidity as you have. But anyone with the intelligence of a barl owl would probably acknowledge that.

I take leave now; and I wish you all the best in your other colorful travels!

Oh and btw,
@Ela

@ ARN

Am sorry to dissappoint u all
Indian embassy r not that bad.... you should have seen how swift they react, if you are in trouble.
I have seen this in Dubai when they helped my collegue there.

@ anonymous... All i can say is FUCK YOU!!!

Hey.kid, you can kiss my pink behind
and may be with your high intelligence can spot on to which 3rd world country its from.

It looks like you got a 100kva jolt in your behind with the 'facts' i mentioned about your city.

Truthfully, tell me which part is not true. I have been in Chennai few days now, there is nothing that will change my mind including your rant.

If you cant drink the water, you cant safely walk the streets, and your fellow citizens treat the whole city like a sewer, and Oh, no one seems to care about the children when they try to cross the street what other conclusion there is.

Do you want me to go on ? Yeah,India had a great culture, look around you, where do you see the culture today? people emulating what the white man.women do ? Yeah there are very smart people , probably around 10% of the population, most given the chance go away and try not to come back.
Oh being clean is for everyone's goodness, taking care of children is for the future of the society, drinking clean water is for everyone's good health.
Take a trip around ToTO anypart of the city and prove me wrong about chaos.
Show me me how and what you are doing and just dont rant loud, you merely confirm my statement about the Dumas.
Lastly,I didnt think all of them are like you, I do think the smart ones and the ones who are aware of the culture serve in Foreign countries some in Indian Embassies.

So, there you have it.. I still have the attitude ..Yes I am leaving Chennai, I am done capturing what I need to and you are not one of them..That is good for Chennai and a Plus for India.

@Slogger, ARN, Anon and Sheeraz Ahamed Khateeb....... the ones I am talking about... they just are not upto the job... they do not think that they have to give the proper information to people who ask for it... The informations like the photo size they want and that they want documents to identify the photo is no where given in the website (the size for photos they had in their website is no longer their size of their choice!)...

mistakes can happen but they way it happens only makes me angry... i had to run to Berlin so many times just to get the right photos for them and all they said to me is "OK everything is fine, u have to wait for 4 to 5 weeks.. then ur passport will be there"... i wait for 4 weeks and made a routine call to them and then i was told that i have to submit documents for identification of my photos which is their normal processing protocol and then only they can proceed with my passport application! ...
Well, may be i was stupid that i did not know that the things go like that, but they could have told me and i do not look like such a stupid one that i cannot understand these things when they tell me so! and they had all my contact information in the application form!

So it is not only me.. in all my multiple trips there i have seen many students so desperate since they have been only told that they will not get their visa.. that's all no explanation, no further information as to why it is cannot be or as to what can be done so that they can get their visa!

I am not talking about their politeness.... politeness without a purpose is nothing but shit! although the shit can contain all the nutrients it is still a shit!

@ ARN... long time ago i thought of blocking anonymous comments but then thought if people does not have the courage to step into the light and say what they want to say then it is their problem... i should have the courage to face what is being said to me... that's why i did not block it... and of course, the human nature amazes me that the anonymous people think that they can be rude, unpolite if they can hide under a mask!

U know... the whole essense of our being is in our identity... but if there are people who cannot bring themselves to use their identity....

@Anon.... i am happy that u did not have any problem and got ur visa very fast!

And as for ur comment
"You Indians created the Monster
and now complaining about it?"

then it is fair enough that if it is so (that we have made the monsters) we are atleast taking responsibility to correct it... the first step being stepping forward and telling that things are not going right!

I think for most of your comments about India and Chennai, ARN has given u answers and u back at him....

I only have got this to say... read back ur comments/arguments, whatsoever... u will understand what's wrong with the American attitude!

Did we ask u to come to Chennai and pronounce a judgement upon us?! what makes u think that as soon as u step foot in our soil u r the judge?! Do u really think that ur America is a fairyland where everything is going picture perfect?!

Most of the westerners misunderstand the politeness and hospitality of Indians... when we ask 'what do u think about Chennai?' it does not mean that we think that u the superior God who has descended upon us to save us... it is just a enthusiastic way of accepting our guests!

I do not want to say anything more... but next time if u get a chance to visit any of the 3rd world countries, please don't do so! becoz seems like u are one of those westerners who can get hyper about people being poor and would luv to go on as "ohh... i luv humanity" stuff while really not understanding the problem that lies deep in the heart and can only be insulting!

Ela said...

@ Sheeraz Ahamed Khateeb... nice to know that atleast some of the people do not have any problem...

i would be happy if things also went like that for me since i am under tremendous pressure with my research and also i am at a stage where i have to move on! so far it has been waste of my money and time with this passport affair!

@Anonymous
So, Anon is it?
More like pathetic coward Anon.
Why, are you too chicken to come out and say what you said, face to face?
:)

Like I said earlier, if you don't like our cities, don't go there!

I've no more time to waste with gutless xenophobes like you.
Now crawl back into that little black hole you came from!

@Ela
Hmm, its true; but the problem is that anonymity provides a kind of cover for ppl to say whatever they want without accountability.

Anyway, hope you get your passport soon.
Cheers!

@Ela
On your suggestion I readback not once but twice my comments.
The 'American' reference was wrt to my transaction with the Embassy staff. It was meant if foreigners were treated right the Citizens would I assume get the same treatment or better.
One thing I would say that I should have refrained from making a comment about your city as a comment in the post.
It has nothing to do with 'me American' I am superior attitude.
We have had problems like 'Katrina and the city New Orleans' after and it was broadcasted world over
I do appreciate the words of 'Annonymous' printed in your blog.
Words need No faces; the content matters; The fact that the google give the 'Annonymous' option recognizes their opinion however harsh or irrelevent it may be.
You understand that, that is pleasing. I can put a name and a face and it aint going to changea thing I wrote. In fact in today's world it could be totally bogus.
About, kid 'ARM'..chekcout his attitude, he a commentator tells you the blog owner to turn-off the access to annonymous. True 'Taliban' attitude. If he is so interested in unmasking the identities, let him try his skill at his fellow muslim sisters who are forced to see the world thru a slit in the dress. He probably doesnt know the meaning of Xenaphobe yet rants on. I pity him and his ignorance.
Next time, may be I should say 'Israeli American' and watch him bounce with his rant andhit the ceiling.

thanks

@Anon... I would be happy if you please don't drag in religion into this!

Quite a lot of damage has been done in the name of religion and i would not tolerate it in my blog that people shout at each other and abuse each other dragging their faith!

ARN's suggestion as to shut off the 'Anonymous' comments has nothing to do with he being a Muslim or even a man (telling a woman) for that matter!

It has got to do with the fact that he is an Indian and we Indians cannot stand others abusing our country! It is the same with our own children... we don't disown them becoz they have some shortcomings... instead we try to make them better inspite of all their problems... the same is with our country.

It has undergone quite a lot of abuse under various rules and regims in the past and we are a struggling but steadily growing country... we may not prosper overnight... but we will steadily move forward.... not all the people who go to foreign countries are smart people running away from the problems of India.. there are people who dream of gathering experience and knowledge and will go back to India to help her.

When that happens... we will be a proud Indians but still if u visit the country we will be humble ones and we do not want to grow into a mighty power by hurting others in the world!

And I am happy again that the foreigners are being treated properly and politely by the Indian staff since I believe the culture and dignity of a country is shown by how the foreigners are treated! so i am happy that u had a pleasant experience and unfortunately i did not... i will also write my opinion to those emabssy staffs how they can improve such things!

u are again wrong in thinking that only Katrina and city of New Orleans is the only indicator of US lifestyle... may be for a tip grass grazer yes... not for me! i do not estimate the worthiness of a country based on those things... and i do not also underestimate the power of nature!

I will not block the anonymous option but in future if u have anything to say in this blog please try to use not-so-hurting words... the truth is harsh but it can also be put in nice words! as the saying of Thiruvalluvar goes "why to chose unripe fruits when u have ripe ones.... why to chose rude and harsh words when there are enough polite words to express ones view?!"

People like who claim to be educated and worldly experienced should try to build bridges not walls! Please!!!

@ARN.. please ignore the comments related to the religion and let things pass... it is not going to help and i am sorry that my blog became the platform for such accusations!
